BEACON CONSTELLATION

The Biomedical Engineering Alliance and Consortium

BEACON is an organization whose goal is to facilitate the development and commercialization of innovations born from the interactions between academia, medicine and industry. This powerful BEACON network of academic and medical institutions as well as corporations creates an optimal environment for the incubation and of new medical technologies. BEACON’s goal is threefold:

(1) stimulation of collaborative research

(2) encouragement of industrial partnerships

(3) facilitation of incubating companies

BEACON’s regional concentration of activity is the I-91 ‘Knowledge Corridor’ running from North Hampton to New Haven. Its strategic position within the "new Atlantic triangle", between Boston, Albany and New York, enables significant technology contributions to the realm of medical devices and systems.

In achieving these objectives, BEACON has evolved into 3 distinct entities:

BEACON (The mother ship) is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit professional organization that has established a "preferential access network" consisting of and for its members. As a result, BEACON provides to any of its members access to the expertise and facilities within the BEACON network. To facilitate collaborative efforts and industrial partnering, BEACON holds seminars, symposia, institutional visits, and presentations by federal and state agencies as well as its corporate members. For the faculty and medical staff of its member institutions it also provides initial guidance to aid in developing business plans and locate financial sources.
BEACON Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation able to receive major gifts from individuals, organizations, or foundations, with the express purpose of supporting additional research and development efforts in the field of bioscience and engineering with a major focus on medical devices and systems. It is also anticipated that as BTN experiences success, a portion of its profits would be donated to the BEACON Foundation to further facilitate the process of BEACON’s continuous innovation’s cycle within the BEACON community.
