| BEACON CONSTELLATION The Biomedical Engineering Alliance and Consortium BEACON is an organization whose goal is to facilitate the development and commercialization of innovations born from the interactions between academia, medicine and industry. This powerful BEACON network of academic and medical institutions as well as corporations creates an optimal environment for the incubation and of new medical technologies. BEACON’s goal is threefold: (1) stimulation of collaborative research (2) encouragement of industrial partnerships (3) facilitation of incubating companies BEACON’s regional concentration of activity is the I-91 ‘Knowledge Corridor’ running from North Hampton to New Haven. Its strategic position within the "new Atlantic triangle", between Boston, Albany and New York, enables significant technology contributions to the realm of medical devices and systems. In achieving these objectives, BEACON has evolved into 3 distinct entities: BEACON (The
mother ship) is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit professional organization that
has established a "preferential access network" consisting of
and for its members. As a result, BEACON provides to any of its members
access to the expertise and facilities within the BEACON network. To facilitate
collaborative efforts and industrial partnering, BEACON holds seminars,
symposia, institutional visits, and presentations by federal and state
agencies as well as its corporate members. For the faculty and medical
staff of its member institutions it also provides initial guidance to
aid in developing business plans and locate financial sources.
